Cote d’Ivoire Equity Watch | 12 Aug 2015: BRVM bourse ends in red, indices fall and investors lose US$85 Mil
Abidjan, Cote d’Ivoire (Capital Markets in Africa):- BRVM (The Regional Stock Exchange of eight West Africa) closed its trading session this Wednesday, lower than the previous day. BRVM 10 index decreased from 310.39 to 307.75 points, a drop of 0.85 percent. BRVM Composite index lost 0.67 percent to 300.87 against 302.90 points previously.
The equity market capitalization plunged by XOF 50 billion (about US$85 million) to close at XOF 7,424 billion relative to previous trading sessions’ market capitalization of XOF 7,474 billion.
The market activity measured by total volume was recorded at 608,913 traded stocks relative to 199,525 recorded at previous trading sessions. The total traded value was at XOF 1,447 million (against XOF 400.919 million recorded at previous trading session) exchanged in 32 traded securities via 281 deals. Today’s top stock by volume was ECOBANK TRANSNATIONAL INCORPORATED TOGO with 538,247 traded securities (accounted for about 88 percent of the total volume). PALM COTE D’IVOIRE recorded the highest total traded value of XOF 692.075 million contributing about 48 percent of total traded value. The Liquidity ratio (measured by Volume traded/ Ask orders volume) ended at 58.66 percent and Price Earnings Ratio was recorded at 23.27.
Among the 32 traded securities today, 8 stocks experienced price gains, 13 witness price drops and 11 stocks price remained flat relative to previous closing price, hence market strength ended negative. SMB COTE D’IVOIRE was the top price gainer by adding 2.70 percent to end at XOF 16,000. Other gainers were UNIWAX COTE D’IVOIRE with a rise of 1.60 percent at XOF 27,900 and VIVO ENERGY COTE D’IVOIRE closed at XOF 69,000 by adding 1.47 percent. CIE COTE D’IVOIRE with a price gain of 1.27 percent to close at XOF 8,005 and TOTAL COTE D’IVOIRE ended at XOF 23,600 with 0.43 percent.
On the losers’ table, CROWN SIEM COTE D’IVOIRE shrank by 7.41 percent to settle at XOF 25,000 and FILTISAC COTE D’IVOIRE decreased by 4.46 percent to close at XOF 30.000. Likewise, AIR LIQUIDE COTE D’IVOIRE lost 3.51 percent to close at XOF 22,000 and BOLLORE AF. LOG. COTE D’IVOIRE sagged by 2.70 percent to close at XOF 180,000. PALM COTE D’IVOIRE closed at XOF 15,500 after giving up 2.52 percent.
From the sector indices viewpoints, the industry sector index fell by 0.64 percent at 163.94 points and public utilities sector index plummeted by 1.09 percent to close at 850.01 points. The distribution sector index rose by 0.36 percent to end at 533.49 points but financial services sector index slightly fell by 0.02 percent to end at 107.69 points. The agriculture sector index tumbled by 1.50 percent to close at 201.91 points and transportation sector index ended at 877.47 points after plunging by 2.65 percent. The miscellaneous sector indices remained unchanged to close at 559.26.
